Welcome
This website documents the work that More Music has been developing in China since 2006. The current phase is in Shanghai where we are working with Fringe Shanghai to develop a new project within the context of EXPO 2010. With support from the British Council this project will create new music and song with people from across the city from schools and community centres. A visit in May started the creative process that will end with performances as part of the British Expo Programme in September 2010.
The current blog is from the ISME conference in July/August 2010.
The work in China started as response to the Morecambe Bay tragedy of February 2004 when 23 Chinese workers lost their lives at sea. More Music then developed four major community music projects involving hundreds of people in Morecambe, Liverpool, Gateshead and Hong Kong. Ten large scale multi media performances, a host of smaller events, gigs and exhibitions and also international collaboration.
A result of the work in Hong Kong has been the new development of a community music network in Hong Kong working with the Centre for Cultural Development. Peter Moser - Artistic Director - has also visited Shantou University Arts Education Centre and started to develop work in Macau for MACWAC Productions and IPAAM. In the summer of 2010 he will present the progress of all of this work to the ISME conference in Hangzhuo and Beijing.
